Roden and Rázlová met in the tragicomedy Tancuj, Matyldo

Matylda is a bar singer with the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Her son has a completely different personality, but the disease can bring them together.

The story of screenwriter Nataša Slavíková and director and screenwriter Petr Slavík took almost seven years to create and points out that illness does not have to be just a complication, but rather an opportunity in life.

“In addition, the tragicomedy genre promises a number of not only dramatic but also humorous situations. The story of an aging woman and her aloof son enters the story of an irresponsible playboy, Matylda’s grandson Pavel, who still treats his grandmother as equals in the stages of her ongoing illness. In addition, he is closer to her than his father and Matylda’s son Karel, whom Pavel cannot forget that he left him in childhood,” described Martina Reková for the creator.

“Our story contains motifs such as illness, death, the breakdown of traditional family ties, and as such it cannot be a light-hearted comedy, but in no way do we resign ourselves to the viewer. On the contrary. In the topic, we look for moments of hope and optimism in life, the possibility of self-enrichment, and thanks to personal experience we know that the coexistence of a family with such an ill member brings a lot of comical or tragicomic situations,” say screenwriter and producer Nataša Slavíková and screenwriter and director Petr Slavík.
