In support of the Mercury Foundation, the State Population Council (Coespo) has been operating since yesterday as a collection center for half-use bicycles, which will be restored and delivered to children and adolescents from marginalized towns in San Luis Potosí.
The idea of this collaboration, presented at a press conference by the Coespo technical secretary, Mayra Edith Velázquez Loera, and by the representatives of Fundación Mercurio, Nancy Villafuerte and Luz Daniela Rangel Ramírez, is that the beneficiaries, between the ages of six and 14 years of age, can go to and from their schools more quickly, comfortably and safely, and that problems such as school dropouts and the emission of polluting gases from automobiles are avoided.
With the campaign “Rodando por un Mundo Mejor”, which is permanent, the Fundación Mercurio, from Bicicletas Mercurio, seeks to benefit a universe of 3,324 minors who live in highly marginalized localities in 41 municipalities of San Luis Potosí.
The first edition of the program was carried out in 2017 with the benefit of 60 families from a town in Ahualulco. In 2022 there was a second edition with 64 bicycles delivered to another location.
