Rod Stewart and Jools Holland surprise commuters at a London train station

“As a destination at the forefront of exciting new arts and music experiences, we were honored to host Sir Rod Stewart and welcome him back to Jools Holland for an impromptu performance today,” said St. Pancras and HS1 Ltd Chief Commercial Officer , Wendy Spinks in a press release.

Stewart and Holland’s new 13-track album, due for release in February 2024, includes songs such as Ain`t Misbehavin, Frankie And Johnny, Sentimental Journey and Lullaby Of Broadway.

The improvised concert at the train station took place on December 5, but it was now that the artists and the British press shared the images. A surprise recording that will be part of the video clip that will accompany the release of the album.

To the rhythm of the classic Almost Like Being in Love, Rod Stewart has set the rhythm to the always bustling London station of St. Pancras, one of the most emblematic stations in the British capital. Accompanied by the chords of Jools Holland on the piano, the duo performed several of the songs they cover on a new album titled Swing Fever, which will be released in early 2024.

Accompanied by an 18-member band and backup singers, the artists captured the attention of dozens of passengers and onlookers who came to see the improvised show. Many of them did not stop recording the performance while they danced to the rhythm of the songs they were performing.

The idea of recording this album arose during conversations that the two musicians had during the pandemic. Rod Stewart had declared that recording an album with the songs that for him have always been the “rock’n roll” of his time was his dream and in Holland he found the perfect ally to carry it out. “I had already started making a swing album, but it didn’t turn out the way I wanted. It was more Frank Sinatra than Louis Prima, let’s say. So I canceled it and then I realized that the guy I should do it with is Jools. So we started to record,” says Stewart.

For his part, Holland explains how he embarked on the project: “I was packing my bags to leave for Christmas and you called me (he tells Stewart). We hadn’t really talked much before. I thought, ‘I love Rod, how exciting,’ and you said, ‘I want to make a record.’ “I had been a fan of Rod’s forever and we realized we liked a lot of the same things.”

The incombustible Rod Stewart always surprises us, but this time he brings his talent even closer to the streets, the closeness with people and his music is something that makes artists proud, they need to feel the warmth of the public to be able to reach their hearts. The staging was spectacular, grand piano, drums, singers and musicians full of energy and dynamism and with Rod and his white coat, they delighted those present who danced and recorded the unforgettable moment with their mobile phones. Bravo Sir Rod Stewart, you are a true gentleman of music! @mundiario
