eramuslim.com – Political observer Rocky Gerung observes the news about the recent opening of Tesla’s new office in Malaysia. According to him, President Joko Widodo failed to persuade Elon Musk to open a business in Indonesia.
According to Rocky, this could have been caused by nickel mining management that did not follow democratic principles and violated the principles of a sustainable economy.
“This is actually what we don’t know, pretend we don’t know or how, for western countries, the process of obtaining energy must be done democratically,” said Rocky, quoted from the Rocky Gerung Official YouTube channel, Thursday (20/4/2023 ).
“The mindset of these nickel entrepreneurs, in particular, is that Indonesia itself exploits nickel in an undemocratic manner, it has violated the principles of a sustainable economy,” he continued.
Not only that, said Rocky, there is a possibility that Elon Musk thinks that Indonesia is not implementing business efficiency.
“Second, in terms of business efficiency, why take goods that are still raw? It’s better to just take the ones that have been cleaned by the smelter in China,” said Rocky.
So, even though there are raw goods in Indonesia, logically, a lot of management is obtained from China.
“So even though in the end the raw goods are there, logically, business efficiency is good in China, the supply is clear,” said Rocky.
“He can read the supply and he knows that actually Indonesia already belongs to China, what about Indonesia?” he continued.
Because of this, Rocky thinks it is natural that in the end Elon Musk will not be interested in investing in Indonesia through nickel mining concessions.
“So it makes sense that in the end we feel insulted by Elon Musk, and that’s what we think is how President Jokowi explains that,” he said.
“In plain sight, Elon Musk said okay, I want to enter Indonesia but on the outskirts, namely Malaysia. I want to build a factory there,” he said.
So, Rocky saw this as a slap in the face for Jokowi, who seemed to be begging for investors to come in. In fact, he was being pranked by Elon Musk.
It is known, Jokowi is confident that Tesla Inc will complete an agreement to invest in Indonesia. He said this after offering incentives ranging from tax breaks to nickel mining concessions in Indonesia.
He also expressed this belief regarding the advantages that Indonesia has, such as having large nickel reserves and quite a promising market or consumers.
