Rocksteady Reveals Post-Launch Plans for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Including Playable Joker Character
In an exciting announcement, developer Rocksteady has unveiled the post-launch plans for their highly anticipated game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The studio has confirmed that players will be able to take control of the iconic villain, The Joker, in a free content update accompanying the game’s first “season.”
According to Rocksteady’s latest Insider video, each post-launch season of Suicide Squad will revolve around a different DC character. Season 1 will kick off in March with The Joker as the star. However, it’s important to note that this version of The Joker is an alternate-reality Elseworlds variant brought into the Arkhamverse by Brainiac. Players can expect unique traversal abilities and weaponry for this version of The Joker, including a dainty mace and a rocket-powered umbrella that allows him to launch into the air, drift, and grind on buildings to knock enemies out of the way.
Season 1 of Suicide Squad will also introduce a new Joker-themed playable environment, two new episodes featuring fresh missions, activities, and strongholds, as well as new boss fights and enemy variants. Additionally, players can look forward to new Riddler content and DC Villain-themed weapons and gear.
Rocksteady has revealed that this structure will serve as the template for all subsequent seasons. The studio is committed to releasing Seasons 2, 3, and 4, each featuring a new playable character from an alternate-reality Elseworlds, along with a corresponding playable environment, new activities, weapons, themed gear sets, mid-season updates, and more.
It’s worth noting that Rocksteady has emphasized that all of the above content will be available for free to all players. They have assured fans that no playable content will be locked behind a seasonal battle pass. However, there will be a paid in-game shop that exclusively offers cosmetics. Today’s developer update showcased an extensive range of emotes, rival taunts, outfits, and other cosmetics, suggesting that players will have plenty of options to personalize their characters.
Eurogamer’s Ed Nightingale recently had the opportunity to go hands-on with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. While he acknowledged Rocksteady’s attempt to explore new territory while staying true to their Arkham-verse lineage and characterful storytelling, he expressed some reservations about the game’s online shooter and live service elements. Nightingale commented, “It’s clear Rocksteady is keen to try something new with Suicide Squad while remaining tied to the studio’s past… but this might not be the superhero fantasy you’re looking for.”
With Rocksteady’s ambitious post-launch plans and the inclusion of The Joker as a playable character, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the superhero gaming genre. Fans can look forward to exploring new environments, engaging in thrilling missions, and experiencing the unique abilities of their favorite DC characters. Whether it lives up to the high standards set by Rocksteady’s previous games remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set to make a splash in the gaming world.
