Rockstar Games is “pursuing excellence” in the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, says parent company CEO Strauss Zelnick.
Rockstar is known far and wide for creating some of the most incredibly detailed worlds in gaming. Starting with Grand Theft Auto 5 in 2013 and ending with Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, Rockstar has redefined what is possible for third-person open-world adventure games. Now the developers intend to set a new bar in Grand Theft Auto 6.
In a recent interview with The Aarthi and Sriram Show, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick briefly commented on Rockstar Games’ process of developing new Grand Theft Auto games, including GTA 6.
In particular, Zelnick discussed the difficult balance between creating new installments of a beloved video game franchise and maintaining the identity and tone of the series as a whole.
“I think this is a problem that Rockstar people have every time a new Grand Theft Auto game comes out. On the one hand, it must be something you’ve never seen before, on the other hand, it must reflect that the feeling we have for Grand Theft Auto. It’s a big challenge for the team.”
Rockstar’s answer is simply to strive for excellence; Strive for excellence and we will achieve it.
Take-Two Interactive management has repeatedly stated that development of GTA 6 is “in full swing”, and also confirmed that previous GTA 6 leaks were real. The leaks have taken their toll on Rockstar Games, but the team continues to work hard on the project.
The company has telegraphed a possible Grand Theft Auto 6 release in 2024-2025, indicated by a significant jump in FY25 projected earnings.
