An Israeli army spokesman said the building had been harassed because it contained Hamas equipment. AP reports on Twitter that the owner of the property was previously informed by the Israeli army about the missile attack. He was able to evacuate the property as a result.

Wael al-Dahdouh, al-Jazeera’s office chief in Gaza, called it “terrible” that the offices of international media had been hit by the missile attack.
A White House spokesman tweeted that Washington has spoken to Israel about the attack on the tower. “We communicated directly to Israelis that ensuring the safety of journalists and independent media is a primary responsibility.”
‘Major counterattack’
Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida has since responded to the attack, saying Tel Aviv’s residents should brace themselves for a major counterattack. He also threatens to attack the cities of Eilat and Haifa.
