Baku, December 2, AZERTAC
The famous Rockefeller Center tree was illuminated in New York on Wednesday, December 1, for the 89th time in history. Symbol of the end of the year celebrations, it is the most famous tree in the United States.
The first installation of a Christmas tree in Rockefeller Plaza dates back to December 1931. In the midst of the Depression, and at the initiative of the workers who were then building Rockefeller Center, it was not only paid for, but also installed and decorated by this band of workers, looking for some end-of-year festivities. It was in 1933 that Rockefeller Center took over the management and illumination of what has become a New York tradition. Three years later, the famous Rockefeller Plaza ice rink was built, completing this double symbol of the holiday season. It was not until 1951 that NBC broadcast on television the illumination of the giant tree. Since then, it has become a real institution, making the Rockefeller Plaza tree the most famous tree in all of America.
