An exhibition of costumes from the new production of the legendary rock opera LĀČPLĖIS by Zigmar Liepiņš and Māras Zālīte has been opened at the Ogre History and Art Museum. The exhibition exhibits the gorgeous costumes created by costume artist ANNA MUNAS (Dana Dombrovska).
Celebrating the 135th anniversary of Andrej Pumpura’s epic LĀČPLĖIS, as well as the 35th anniversary of the rock opera, this year a new production of the legendary rock opera was created on the initiative of the municipality of Ogre region, which was powerfully and emotionally bright for the first time in Andrej Pumpura’s birthplace – Lielvārde and later united thousands of spectators in Arena Riga.
The audience’s ovation, agreement in the song and bright emotions confirmed that the story of Lāčplēš has not lost its relevance even today.
In November, when we celebrate national holidays in Latvia, the Culture Center of Ogre region, in cooperation with costume artist Anna Muna, has created an opportunity to take another look at the new production of the rock opera LĀČPLĖIS and feel the story of courage, true freedom and striving for light through the costumes of the performance.
“The story of Lāčplēsi is the story of the Hero. And given the opportunity to participate in the creation of this fabulous hero story, I asked myself – what can I do to increase the Light?”, reveals costume artist Anna Muna.
The artist Lāčplēša nursed the characters through her heart and through her hands, letting herself in the power of colors in her choice of colors and freeing herself from the gray, down-to-earth. Colors, patterns and textures of fabrics have been arranged, meditating on the story of each character.
“The magic of my costumes is that they help to straighten the back, they give strength, please the eyes, and if the actors sing from the heart while wearing the costume created by me, then the song will inevitably reach the hearts of the audience as well. For me, creation is a living process. I can’t give an exact description for each of the outfits, as they are made as they are made. I also wish this for our nation. Start with yourself and do the best you have been given,” says costume designer Dana Dombrovska.
17 costumes of rock opera characters are exhibited in the LĂČPLĖIS rock opera costume exhibition at the Ogre History and Art Museum, and those interested can view them until December 3.
The implementation of the new production of the rock opera LĀČPLĖIS took place in cooperation with the Culture Center of Ogre Region and Producer Group 7. The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Culture Center of Ogre Region and costume artist Anna Muna (Dana Dombrovska).
