The Quebec artist’s flagship song: Helencelebrates its 35th anniversary this year. For the occasion, Roch Voisine will go on a major European tour. This Sunday, September 22, he was already in concert at the Zénith in Paris. Interviewed by our colleagues from Parisianin an interview published on September 23, 2024, the 61-year-old singer confided in his legendary song, but also his relationship with fame and his love for France. When asked how he experienced success after Roch-mania, he answered bluntly: “I had a very normal life.“He explains that after the concerts, he would return home in “a simple little house on the edge of a lake“. For him, “it was like a double life”.
Two elements in particular helped him to cope well with his new celebrity: his age and Quebec. On the one hand, “I was 26, I didn’t come out of a boy band at 15!”, he reveals. He had already completed four years of university studies, “to become a physiotherapist“. He confesses: “That’s what helped me, success didn’t eat me up.” Before adding: “The previous life became a parallel life, it protected me.“On the other hand, the mentality in Canada, more precisely in Quebec, is very different from that in the United States for example,”there are no paparazzi”, explains Roch Voisine. He assures: “The culture there is to leave people alone.“The 61-year-old singer insists: “People are nice.“He even reveals: “When I go to the supermarket, no one bothers me.”

His special relationship with France: “It’s a bit like home”
