Roccadaspide, bitten by the violin spider: hospitalized in Naples

The Province of Salerno records the first case of a person hospitalized due to a bite from the violin spiderIt happened to a man of Cilento origins, in particular of Roccadaspide: the patient was initially admitted to the “Roars” of Salernoin the department of Emergency surgerybut following investigations and checks it was established that he should receive more appropriate care. Therefore his transfer to the“Cotugno” hospital in Naplesa facility specialized in the treatment of patients suffering from infectious diseases.

The consequences

The man is not in danger of life, but after the wound caused by the spider to his leg, increasingly serious problems were found until he was rushed to the hospital in Salerno where he was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis due to the poisonous bite it causes ulcers and the death of cells in the affected area which then spreads. Apparently, the bite was painless and initially there were no changes in the affected area, then blackening of a part of the affected leg was noted, extensive redness, pain and in the following hours ulcers appeared triggering tissue necrosis.
