Robot ignores Scholz’s commands at the Hanover Fair

(ANSA) – BERLIN, APRIL 22 – The inaugural tour at the Hanover industrial fair was an opportunity for Olaf Scholz to underline how innovative the German economy is, especially in futuristic fields such as artificial intelligence, one of the main themes of ‘event. But when the German chancellor was called upon to act as a spokesperson, the interaction with a robot did not go as planned. This was reported by the website of the German weekly Der Spiegel, specifying that at the stand of Siemens, one of the largest German industrial groups, Scholz had to accelerate a robotic arm using voice commands. “Can we increase the speed? Faster. Even faster,” urged Scholz. Initially, however, nothing happened and only after several attempts was the command executed. A member of the Siemens board of directors, Cedrik Neike, eased the embarrassment with an ad hoc comparison: “It’s like in politics. It takes a little longer for it to work; but when it works, it works well.” (HANDLE).
