The Milan Court of Appeal upheld a nine-year prison sentence for Brazilian footballer Robinho for participating in the mass rape of a woman in 2013. Now the 36-year-old attacker was convicted in 2017 and insists on his innocence. He can appeal again within 90 days.
Robinho was convicted of raping a 22-year-old Albanian girl at a disco seven years ago while working for AC Milan. One of his friends also received a nine-year prison sentence and together the victims have to pay compensation of 60,000 euros (1.6 million crowns). The trial with four other men was adjourned.
The 100-time Brazilian national team member Robinho won the Turkish title with Basaksehire this year and signed a contract with Santos in October, where he was to begin his fourth term. Under pressure from one of the sponsors, the club terminated the contract with the former Manchester City and Real Madrid players after a week precisely due to the ongoing criminal case in Italy.
