Robin Olsen, goalkeeper for the Sweden national team, felt “embarrassed” after the team’s 3-0 defeat to Azerbaijan in qualifying for Euro’2026. The player even said he felt sorry for the Swedish fans who went to Baku to watch the match.
“What happened was really shameful. I was upset, but this must be resolved now. I spoke in the dressing room, but let’s leave it at that. We should be ashamed, I am ashamed. It really hurts to leave here with a result like this, we deserve all the criticism we receive. I won’t read it, but I expect serious criticism. No player deserves to be praised”, said the Aston Villa player.
Olsen felt sorry for the fans. “At the end of the game I felt embarrassed, I walked away and took off my shirt as an excuse. What else can I do? They came here to see this shit. It was the least I could do.”
Sweden is third in Group F, with 7 points, and no longer has a chance of qualifying. Austria (19) and Belgium (17) qualified.
