Koch, who came back to the Bundesliga from England in the summer because he wanted to get back into the spotlight of the national team, has been performing at a consistently high level since the start of the season. As head of defense, he played a decisive role in the unexpectedly strong Eintracht defense. And according to BILD information, he has now even been promoted to the team council. In Hoffenheim he took the field as captain for the first time.
Körbel says in BILD: “He hardly makes any mistakes in the game, has a good eye and top positioning. It’s not spectacular, but it’s incredibly safe, with this stability it holds everything together at the back.”

And further: “I didn’t understand that Robin wasn’t there on the trip to the USA, I would have taken him with me anyway. He deserves a chance in the national team, he doesn’t have to hide behind anyone. When I see the mistakes others make…”
The former defender, a record player with 602 Bundesliga appearances, remembers his own professional days. He never got a real chance in the national team either, and it was over after just six international matches. In the end, he never got past Bayern’s Schwarzenbeck because Franz Beckenbauer wanted his club colleague next to him.
Körbel: “I was better, but I wasn’t allowed to play. At some point I didn’t feel like it anymore and stopped talking about the national team for myself. In hindsight, that might have been a mistake.”
