Players of the two teams bickered until the stewards had to be separated on the sidelines. Robertson and Pickford then received a warning from the referee.
The Merseyside derby is indeed known as one of the hottest duels between two one-city teams in England. There have been 22 red cards issued since the Premier League started in 1992.
