Roberto Kelly was part of the two most winning organizations in the Major Leagues and the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) during his career as a player. Now, with the celebration of two exhibition games between the Yankees and the Diablos next March at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium, the Panamanian applauds the management made by the board of directors of the Diablos Rojos of Mexico to bring the most popular baseball team on the planet to Mexico City.

“That was an exceptional job that the Devils were able to do, because, as you say, being able to bring a Major League team with the level of the New York Yankees, I think it is a quite important feat,” said Roberto. Kelly. “Probably not all the regulars will come, but I am sure that some I know will be able to go to Mexico.”

After several months of management, both organizations managed to officially announce the celebration of two games on March 24 and 25, a few days before the start of the Major League regular season, so many of the players who attend for the Bronx bombers would be on pace by then.

Expectations for these matches are so high that tickets for both matches were sold out this Wednesday, February 7, around 30 or 40 minutes after going on general sale.

Regarding his time with both organizations, Kelly fondly remembers the good times he spent in New York and Mexico City.

“Pretty exciting because I played with both teams,” Kelly said. “I came up with the Yankees and I was also with the Devils. What better franchises to be able to play the game. I think that Mexican fans will be able to enjoy an organization as important as the Yankees.”

Roberto debuted and spent the first six years of his MLB career with the Yankees, the last of them earning his first call to the All-Star Game. After a long time in the best baseball in the world, he returned to the Bronx Bombers for his 14th and final season. Two years later he was becoming a reference for the most recent two-time championship in the history of the Devils, winning the league in 2002 and 2003.

For the second time in history, the Yankees will visit Mexico City to face the Red Devils. In March 1968, the Scarlets beat the New Yorkers 5-3 with a dominant Ramón Arano from the mound. After 56 years, both will meet again in the newest cathedral of Mexican baseball.
