Liverpool closed the Premier League season in a goal chase vs Southampton, and Roberto Firmino was on the scoresheet in his farewell game.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Visiting Southampton headquarters, Liverpool were unable to win in Roberto Firmino’s farewell game. The two teams exchanged goals until the final score was 4-4 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Sunday (28/5) evening WIB.
Romeo Lavia’s blunder opened the scoring for The Reds. The pass from the Manchester City academy graduate was cut off by Diogo Jota, who immediately struck the ball into an empty goal in the 10th minute. Four minutes later, Firmino got his parting goal after converting Fabinho’s pass.
The Saints, even though it has been confirmed that he will end the 2022/23 English Premier League as bottom, does not want to just give up. They replied with two goals in nine minutes, the first from captain James Ward-Prowse in the 19th minute before Kamaldeen Sulemana converted Theo Walcott’s cross to equalize in the 28th minute.
Sulemana scored a superb solo goal and so did Southampton comeback early in the second half! Receiving the ball from the corner of his own penalty box, the Ghana star dribbled it into the Liverpool area before firing a banana from 18 meters.
Not even a minute after entering the field, Adam Armstrong doubled Soton’s advantage in the 64th minute. But this fight apparently still has one plot twist again, when Liverpool equalized through two goals in a minute, minutes 72 and 73, through the contributions of Cody Gakpo and Jota.
