Roberta Bencini remembers her husband Paolo killed by his lover to collect an insurance claim
Roberta Bencini is from Poggibonsini and ended up, despite herself, in the crime story regarding the murder of her husband Paolo Vaj. The woman, despite the betrayal she suffered, gathered all her strength to bring justice to her husband Paolo, killed by his lover.
The story
It could be a detective story if it weren’t a true story, the story of a marriage that failed due to Patrizia Armellin, Paolo’s lover. The two had had a relationship in the past and the woman, after Paolo’s transfer from Vittorio Veneto to Poggibonsi, had returned to the man’s life. Armellin had managed to get Paolo to give her a lot of money and 3 insurance policies worth 418 thousand euros of which she was the beneficiary. The economic motive is at the basis of the premeditated crime that Armellin and her friend Angelica Cormaci carried out on the night between 18 and 19 July 2019. To defend themselves, they accused Paolo of violence, and it was at that moment that Roberta showed his strength. Determined to give justice to her husband and defend his memory from defamatory accusations, Roberta decided to tell her story, as well as to the cameras of “La Vita in Diretta“, in a book: Paolo’s version.
The Venice Court of Appeal confirmed the 24 and 16 year sentences for Patrizia Armellin and her friend Angelica Cormaci.

The book
“Paul’s version ” Helicon editions is the book that Roberta felt the need to write to give everyone the opportunity to know the truth about her husband’s crime after the case, which had hit the news on TV and newspapers, was losing its authenticity. The book, told like a novel, reports the love story between Roberta and Paolo, the holidays in Crete, Patrizia’s manipulations up to the tragic epilogue, the friendship with Valentina, Patrizia’s sister. Inside the book, the story of the trial, also taken from the broadcast “A day in the Magistrates Court“, in which Roberta was assisted by the lawyer Nicodemo Gentile. The book also contains the full version of the chats that frame the two murderers.
