Robert Łukaszewicz took fourteenth place in Saturday’s semi-final of diving from the tower into the water and did not advance to the final of the games in Paris. The last two attempts meant that the Pole did not make it to the top twelve, which obtained a pass to fight for Olympic medals. Łukaszewicz will be a reserve in the afternoon final of the Olympic Games.
23-year-old Łukaszewicz has been building a strong position in the world hierarchy of tower jumpers (from a height of 10 meters) for some time now. In 2022, he was in the final of the European Championships in Rome, and a year later, in front of his home crowd, he was in the best twelve of the European Games. Last season, he also achieved great successes in synchronized jumps together with his club colleague Filip Jachim. He qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris on his own, gaining the first Olympic qualification for Poland in 32 years. Already since Friday in the capital of France, Łukaszewicz has shown that he does not intend to stop at just his Olympic debut. On Friday, our representative started the qualifying round very well, after the second jump he was even ninth. Ultimately, he made it to the semi-finals from 18th place (366.05), the last place that ensured promotion to Saturday’s starts. The Polish swimmers are supported by the main sponsor of the Polish Swimming Association, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA
In Saturday’s morning semi-final, Łukaszewicz was the first to appear on the tower and began the competition in promising style, because in his first attempt, 3.5 somersaults forward, he collected decent marks from the judges. From fifteenth place after the first round (67.50 points), he began a points chase after his rivals, because only 12 out of 18 semi-finalists qualified for the final. And he did it effectively, because after the second attempt, the Stal Rzeszów competitor was already twelfth (134.70), and after the next two jumps he even placed in the top ten competitors. After the fifth attempt, Łukaszewicz dropped to eleventh position (340.35), and after the last attempt in the program, i.e. 3.5 somersaults backwards, it was left to wait for the rivals to make a move. Ultimately, the Pole, making his debut at the Games, took fourteenth place and will thus be the second reserve in the final scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The semi-final competition was dominated by Asians – Chinese Yuan Cao won ahead of Hao Yang, and Japanese Rikuto Tamai came in third.
