–In the last 24 hours, 17,855 new infections and 104 deaths have been registered. In general, the numbers reported on Sunday are slightly lower, as fewer tests are done on weekends, but a week ago the institute reported 12,196 new cases and 68 deaths, which means there is an increase in numbers. , notes DPA.
In the last seven days, the reproductive number has increased to 129.2 from 127 a week ago.
Data from 70 hospitals show that more and more young people are being hospitalized and intensive care units are filling up quickly.
The total number of registered infections in Germany since the beginning of the epidemic is already 2,998,268, and the number of deaths – 78,353.
Due to the growing number of infected and under-vaccinated, no eventual resumption of events gathering many people, such as fairs and festivals, is expected. The organizers’ association said it could not do quick tests at events that would be attended by a really large number of people.
At the same time, Labor Minister Hubertus Heil said there were plans to introduce a requirement for rapid tests in the workplace to protect those who could not work from home. This is the role and responsibility of business, he said in an interview with Bild am Sonntag. Now only 61 percent of businesses offer their employees free coronavirus tests.
The proposal to oblige employers to test their employees will be discussed on Tuesday.
