In the United States, should January 6, 2021 remain just a bad memory? The assault on Congress by pro-Trump activists as well as calls from Trump and many Republicans denouncing, against all evidence, that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen,” shook the convictions of those who saw American democracy as an indestructible rock. With the arrival of Democrat Joe Biden at the White House eight months ago, a return to a certain normality has taken hold in the US administration. But it might just be the calm before the storm. Behind the tinsel of this normality, however, American democracy remains very fragile.
