The 45-year-old has extended his contract as a professional coach of the DEL2 ice hockey team
EHC Freiburg extended his contract with head coach Robert Hoffmann by another year on Friday. The 45-year-old will continue to lead the fortunes of the wolves behind the gang in the DEL2.
Hoffmann came back to Breisgau from Dresden last season, where he had already spent a total of two and a half years on the ice as a professional. Together with the sporting director of the Wolves Peter Salmik, he has made it his priority to promote and develop young players in Freiburg.
With an average age of just under 24, EHC Freiburg not only has the youngest team since the 2011/12 season, but also one of the younger teams overall in the second German ice hockey league.

With the playoff entry and reaching the DEL2 quarterfinals, Hoffmann and the team were able to seamlessly continue the successes of previous seasons in a more than difficult Corona season. Salmik once again expresses his satisfaction with his contract extension:
For Robert it was the first full year as head coach in the DEL2. We experienced ups and downs and in the end we were able to present a more than good result in a really difficult season. Last season he was practically faced with a fait accompli in terms of the squad. In the following season we would like to give him the opportunity to put together the team more according to his wishes.
According to Hoffmann himself, he is very happy to continue working on the common path as head coach of the wolves in the coming ice hockey season. He really feels at home in Freiburg and, in his opinion, the entire team has shown what it’s made of:
We have a clear vision together and want to push it further in the coming season.
As is customary in such situations, the coach and club will remain silent about other contractual contents.
