Robert has 3 hits and 2 produced; White Sox win

CHICAGO (AP) – Luis Robert had three hits and two RBIs, Eloy Jimenez had another with a double, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Oakland Athletics 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Seth Brown hit a solo home run for the Athletics, who lost their fourth straight game and learned hours before that ace Chris Bassitt suffered a fractured bone in his face, requiring surgery.

The right-hander instead suffered no eye damage after being hit by a liner Tuesday.

Athletics general manager David Frost said it’s too early to predict whether Bassitt will pitch again this season or how long his return will take.

The pitcher was taken to the hospital after he was hit by a ball off Brian Goodwin’s bat in Tuesday’s game, a 9-0 Chicago win.

Garrett Crochet (3-5), the first of four White Sox relievers, worked 1 1/3 inning for the win. Liam Hendricks got the last five outs against his previous team and struck out all three of his opponents in the ninth inning to reach 28 saves.

The setback was for Paul Blackburn (0-1).

For the Athletics, the Dominican Starling Marte 4-1 with an RBI. Venezuelan Elvis Andrus 3-1 with a run scored.

For the White Sox, Venezuelan Cesar Hernandez 4-1 with a run scored. The Cubans José Abreu 4-1, Yoán Moncada 3-1 with two runs scored, Robert 4-3 with two produced. The Dominican Jiménez 4-1 with an RBI.
