Robbie Williams emotional speech about battling addictions in Australia

Singer Robbie Williams burst into tears on stage at last week’s concert in Sydney, Australia, talking about the great importance of Australia in his battle with addictions, The Mirror reports.

The 49-year-old superstar, who performed in front of 38,000 fans at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium, has made no secret of his drug addiction, with viewers seeing the harsh reality of his life at the height of his drug addiction and mental health issues in the Netflix documentary.

But now, live on stage, he revealed to fans that his visit to Australia to film the biopic ‘Better Man’ played a crucial role in his quest to find happiness during the pandemic last year.

He said: “I came to Australia and performed a few times for ‘Better Man’ and I was just amazed that these seats were filled with people coming to my concert. It made me remember and realize that in those deepest, darkest sometimes that voice is the loudest.”

He added: “One of the main things that kept me on the planet was that you came for me and thought I was okay.”

When I had almost no evidence in my own head, I could see it in your faces.

At the end of his heartfelt speech, he thanked his Australian fans for helping him through his toughest time. He continued: “Thank you for helping me when you didn’t know you were helping me. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been… I love you Australia.”

Used drugs to numb the pain

Robbie Williams has previously spoken in interviews about the fact that in the early 1990s, when he was singing in Take That, he constantly tried to ignore an inner voice in his head.

To numb the pain, he used drugs and alcohol, which led him to addiction.

The singer admitted: “I was drinking and doing drugs to numb the pain and to be honest, just to stop my voice from cracking because I was drinking and drugs, which was a fast one-way trip to hell, and eventually I had to stop. I had to stop using drugs or I would die…”

Robbie got sober 24 years ago, but it forced him to deal with his own mental health issues, which were just as painful.
