Rob Stenders will start his new program on Radio Veronica on Monday. At the commercial station, he’s not just a radio DJ; he has also held sway as the broadcaster’s boss since April. “Musically I want to broaden and deepen. In plain language: we are going to play much more than just the well-known pop classics”, says Rob in Veronica Superguide.
As the new station boss of Radio Veronica, Rob has completely overhauled the programming, including the arrival of Danny Vera, Ronald Giphart and Arjan Snijders. “There are new DJs who play records that make them happy. As it was in the early days from Veronica. And of course I want more listeners. But most of all I want it to be a fun channel. That takes some time,” said Rob.
Channel boss is ‘uncomfortable’
Rob still calls the title ‘boss of Radio Veronica’ unfamiliar. “But I think it’s quite funny that with Veronica I can now decide whether we go right or left. It looks like honest work, though. In the old situation (at Radio 2, ed.) I came in at five to two, I shouted some rebellious things into the microphone and at four o’clock I said: ‘See you tomorrow’ and I went home again. Now my days are a little longer.”
Why did Rob switch to Radio Veronica? “I did my program at Radio 2 and I had nothing to do with the rest. Now I can give the whole radio station a little bit of direction. What am I saying? A little bit much, because I’ve been given a free hand. And then there is also Veronica, who I have a history and a feeling about.”
Rob especially hopes that listeners will tune in to Radio Veronica from Monday. “I hope I have so many bonus points that listeners think: the old fool is now with Veronica, I’ll give it a try,” said Rob in the Veronica magazine.
