Marvel Comics will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Deadpool’s first appearance next year with 30 special variant covers drawn by the antihero’s co-creator, Rob Liefeld, whose return to Marvel for the occasion was announced in early December. The covers will see Deadpool paired with other characters, some of whom are being drawn by Liefeld for the first time. Among those characters is Miles Morales, whose team with Deadpool will be the focus of the 2021 Miles Morales cover variant. : Spider-Man #25.
On the cover, Liefeld’s artwork sees the Cobweb Wonder and Brooklyn’s Degenerate Regenerate leaping into action, with Deadpool wielding a weapon and unsheathed katana.

“When the opportunity presented itself to illustrate 30 commemorative variant covers for Deadpool’s 30th anniversary, I literally went on an adventure.” Liefeld stated in the press release announcing the variant of the Miles Morales cover. “I went through a quick list with Marvel bosses and I think we have chosen a wide variety of Marvel’s biggest and brightest stars to pair with the Mighty Merc over 30 unique covers! Gives me a chance to draw Deadpool with Marvel stars I’ve never drawn before like Miles Morales and Silver Surfer! This is going to be great, I hope the fans enjoy this special event, it’s a blast of fun putting it all together! “

Debuting in 1991 in The New Mutants # 98 by Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, Deadpool is Wade Wilson’s alter ego, who gained a healing factor and other powers thanks to being subjected to the same experiments that Wolverine did. Deadpool is quite popular, appearing in various comic book titles over the years and starring in two live-action movies with Ryan Reynolds in the role.
Preceding the variant covers, Marvel’s celebration of Deadpool’s 30th anniversary will begin with Deadpool Nerdy 30 #1. Featuring creators who have previously worked on the character, Deadpool Nerdy 30 # 1 is a giant-sized special issue that will explore Wade Wilson’s past, present and future.
