Rob Jansen angry about the dismissal of football icon: ‘That club should be deeply ashamed!’

Rob Jansen lashes out at ADO Den Haag in his own podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp. The club plans to say goodbye to Lex Schoenmaker despite an ongoing contract, but Jansen is trying with all his might to put a stop to that. “How do you imagine it? To cause such a person, with such a track record for your club, who works for a measly salary, so much grief?” Jansen grumbles in the podcast.
The 76-year-old Schoenmaker is a native of The Hague, who played for years as a left winger in the first team of ADO. After his active career, Schoenmaker held a variety of positions at the club, including (spread over several periods) that of head coach. He is currently under contract as an ambassador for the club.
“Lex Schoenmaker is somewhat of the last ADO icon from his age group who is still employed by that club,” says Jansen. “Clubs normally always keep such names with them out of respect. Those people get older, but that doesn’t matter, those people remain associated with the club forever.”
Remarkably, ADO wants to change that at Schoenmaker. “Lex Schoenmaker receives a very small salary for this at ADO, really a very small salary. But ADO in all its wisdom has decided that they actually want to get rid of Lex Schoenmaker. They actually say: ‘You still have an ongoing contract, but what should we do with you?’”
Jansen doesn’t just let that happen. “I personally took it upon myself to fix that. I said: ‘That’s not going to happen.'” The well-known agent is currently in Curaçao. “People from my Wasserman office will ensure that this does not happen. I think it is also wise that I do not handle it myself.” As a native of Hagenees, Jansen is emotionally connected to ADO.
According to the football agent, general manager Natascha van Grinsven of ADO plays a negative role in the case. “Then I also think of the director of such a club, a lady in this case: how do you get it into your head to do this?”
For Schoenmaker, ADO’s announcement came as a shock. “How do you imagine causing such a person, who works for a measly salary, so much grief by saying: ‘We don’t see you that much, what should we do with you?’ Then you didn’t understand it at all.”
Jansen had hoped that Joris Mathijsen, technical director at ADO, would come to the rescue for Schoenmaker. “I think it’s a shame that Mathijsen does nothing as technical director. He is just wrong. Then I think: Joris, come on man, you were a great football player yourself. You can say: ‘This is not possible at all?'”
