Roads and houses under water due to faulty pumping station

The problem arose because, in part due to excessive rainfall, water was flowing from a defective sewage pumping station.

The water found its way to the Koningin Julianaweg, where both roads were flooded. This caused great inconvenience and caused both the town and the police to decide to close the road to all traffic.

The water from the sewage pumping station caused even greater problems on the Woutersweg, where it entered the houses. The fire brigade was asked to both stop the flow of water and to assist those affected.

Officials from the Westland area and the Water Board are on site to assess the situation and discuss possible measures. Councilor/Deputy mayor Ben van der Stee from the Westland area was also on site.

Updated at 10:25 p.m: firefighters have gained access to the sewage pumping station in ‘s-Gravenzande. It turned out that the problems were somehow related to problems at the sewage pumping station in Vlaardingen. Measures have now been taken there to stop the flow of water from the pumping station in ‘s-Gravenzande. As a result, the water in ‘s-Gravenzande is now declining. The Water Board is now measuring surface water to determine the level of pollution in ditches, etc.
