“Many Charitois brought us up during the daily life commissions which are held on Wednesday their concerns about excessive speeds in many streets of La Charité”, explains in the preamble Rémi Amelaine, municipal councilor responsible for works and public safety. To respond to this request from Charitois, the town hall has just acquired two mobile educational radars whose purpose is both informative and preventive.
“Some motorists do not realize their speed, presents Jean-Claude Charret, first deputy in charge of town planning. They are the ones we are targeting because seeing their speed, we hope they will slow down. But we know that for others it will not change anything. The installation of these radars is part of a municipal desire to reduce speed in the city. The entire city center (all the streets between the station roundabout, rue des Hôtelleries, rue du Pont, rue du Clos and rue des Écoles) must also pass into zone 30 in during the first half of 2023.
Pace recording
These two radars are mobile. That is to say that they will only be deployed in one place for a limited period, around three weeks on average according to the elected officials. “A few black spots have been identified,” explains Rémi Amelaine. These are Avenue du Champ-du-Seigneur, Rue de la Résistance, Rue du Clos and Rue des Bertranges, as well as the quays. “But we won’t limit ourselves to that,” adds Jean-Claude Charret.
In addition to communicating their speed to road users, these devices will also record the traffic and speeds observed, even with the radar off. And this for several purposes. “In some streets, the perception is misleading, explains Rémi Amelaine. This is for example the case of the rue de la Résistance where the dumpsters of the trucks going to the recycling center make a lot of noise. With these radars, we will have figures to present to local residents. They will also make it possible to support requests for intervention by the gendarmes, in the event of abuse.
