Road Safety: Fines Issued to Pedestrians and Drivers in the Capital

30 November 2023 20:33

Total 171 pedestrians and 66 car drivers were fined in the capital for improperly crossing or depriving pedestrians of the right of way in the period from November 13 to 30.

“We recommend to pedestrians to cross at the places designated by law – pedestrian paths, overpasses, underpasses, and not to jump onto the roadway suddenly. Before crossing, they should look in both directions and when they are convinced that there is no danger, then cross,” said Ivo Bikov, an inspector in the “Road Police” department at the SDVR.

It is essential that Pedestrians should wear bright clothes, especially during the dark part of the day, to be noticed. If they don’t have bright clothes, they can wear them reflective element on his clothing or his bag, Inspector Bikov explained.

“It’s winter, the asphalt is icy, snowy, wet and this lengthens the stopping distance of cars. If drivers do not respect the speed well, under these conditions, quite serious traffic accidents can occur,” explained the inspector.

The drivers should be with caution when approaching footpaths, not to undertake prohibited maneuvers and improper overtaking. Let them consider their speed so that they can stop if necessary at any moment without creating danger for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users, he added.
