Road Safety Education Program Presented in Rancagua – 2024-09-04 01:39:28

National and regional authorities delivered on Tuesday the pilot report of the Road Safety Education Program, which is aimed at people convicted of crimes related to violations of the Traffic Law and is currently being implemented in four Social Reintegration Centers (CRS) throughout the country.

The activity, held at the headquarters of the Social Reinsertion Center (CRS) in Rancagua, was chaired by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, Jorge Daza; the regional director of the Gendarmerie of O’Higgins, Rafael Ruíz; the executive secretary of the National Commission for Traffic Safety (Conaset), Luz Infante, and the regional ministers of Justice and Transportation, Eduardo Marchant and Flavia González, respectively.

During the day, those present enjoyed talks and presentations on the role that people included in this pilot program should play, in order to train better pedestrians, drivers and cyclists, as well as develop a culture of self-care and risk prevention through road safety education.

Undersecretary of Transportation, Jorge Daza, said in his speech that road safety must be promoted, in order to have a “Safe 18”, where everyone must be aware of driving and the consequences that can come from not driving safely.

“We have to regret that last year there were 25 deaths in road accidents during the Fiestas Patrias (…) and more than 2 thousand Chileans during the year,” said the spokesman for the Ministry of Transport.

Daza also said that “we have made a lot of progress in legislation, in improvements to the road system and according to statistics, we are the first country with the best roads in Latin America (…) and yet more than 2 thousand people continue to die.”

The regional director of Gendarmerie, Rafael Ruiz, acknowledged this workshop and agreement that Conaset makes with Gendarmerie as being of great importance, so that this initiative can be taken in other places in the country and that these festivities end peacefully without incidents to regret.

Tomás Barrios Zapata, described the social reintegration process as long and valuable, willing to help and share his testimony to advise and prevent.

“You can improve yourself as a person and have a commitment to society in the matter of car accidents,” he said, advising the population not to drink alcohol when driving a vehicle and that they can enjoy themselves without driving under the influence of alcohol.

At the end of the activity, certificates were given to the participants of the Social Reintegration Workshop and to those involved in violations of the Traffic Law.
