At the end of 2022, the road that crosses the city of Bamenda in the North-West region was still awaiting financing for the development project by the World Bank (WB), through the International Bank for Reconstruction and development (Bird). Studies were still being finalized for the construction of an urban boulevard. This section is the fourth lot of the Babadjou-Bamenda road rehabilitation project.

Since December 2022, works under management to improve traffic on this axis of the city have started with the services of the regional delegation of the Ministry in charge of Public Works (Mintp) for the North-West region. According to the Mintp, the axis was sufficiently degraded to attract special attention from the government, in order to allow users and residents to carry out their activities. By April 20, 2023, the Mintp intends to recruit a firm with the aim of carrying out a technical study of this 11.9 km long axis.

Mintp’s request for proposals is addressed to three companies on a shortlist: Ecta-BTP/Cafard (Cameroon); Techniplan (Italy) and Bec La Routière Sarl (Cameroon). According to Mintp figures as of March 8, 2023, the general progress rate of work on the Babadjou-Bamenda axis has reached 37%, while the difference with the updated cash flow financial planning is 7%.
