General Manager of Roadgrip Motorsport Indonesia (RMI), Simon Gardini recommends re-paving the Mandalika Circuit after the second series MotoGP Mandalika 2022.
This was revealed by Gardini in front of the Mandalika Circuit paddock on Sunday (20/3) night. According to him, it is normal that the asphalt condition is not optimal for the first implementation.
“We’ve served the worst. So if you get two-thirds of service problems, it’s still a bit of a compromise because we did it very quickly. So here the discussion is not after the race is over,” said Gardini.
“Then what’s next? I think the current asphalt is equal in quality, type, and all. So I think maybe we will recommend all new asphalt,” said the white-haired man added.
Regarding other shortcomings around the circuit, Gardini believes the time for the next one year, before the 2023 MotoGP is held, will be overcome. In this case, RMI will coordinate and work optimally.
“At the same time I’m sure we can tackle other areas off the beaten track with new tools and such. And, you know, we’re going to do things perfectly going forward, it’s going to last for years.”
As a party employed by the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) as well as the Indonesia Tourism and Development Corporate (ITDC), RMI is committed to making the Mandalika Circuit one of the best circuits in the world.
The asphalt of the Mandalika Circuit was indeed re-paved. After the pre-season test in February, a number of drivers complained about the condition of the asphalt. After that, Dorna as the race operator asked MGPA to re-pave.
It’s just that not all parts of the track are re-paved. Only the track from the 16th to the 17th corner is 1.6 kilometers long. This re-paving lasted four days and was completed three days before the free practice session on Friday (18/3).
The next race will take place at the MotoGP Argentina, 3 April. Live streaming MotoGP Argentina 2022 can be watched on CNNIndonesia.com, while the live broadcast of the race can be watched on Trans7.
