The peak of the corona pandemic has long been passed, but infections are still being recorded. After rising since mid-May, the numbers have remained at a constant level in recent weeks. According to the current weekly report According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of severe respiratory infections in recent weeks has been “at a higher level than usual at this time of year”, but is increasingly approaching the usual summer values. The RKI currently estimates that there are 2.8 million acute respiratory diseases in the population. In addition to the coronavirus, cold viruses such as rhinoviruses are responsible for this.
Number of corona infections in Germany remains constant
Although the number of confirmed corona infections is no longer meaningful because significantly fewer people are getting tested than during the pandemic, a trend is emerging. According to the RKI, almost 4,500 laboratory-confirmed corona cases were reported in Germany last week. The previous week, there were slightly more cases, at just over 4,600.
This trend is also reflected in the Wastewater monitoring of the RKI and the Federal Environment Agency. The latest report from August 22 shows that the coronavirus load in Germany has remained constant compared to the previous week. In Bavaria, the virus load was only reported as “increasing” at five of the 30 measuring locations at the beginning of August. At the beginning of June, there were still 26. “Increasing” means that the virus load has increased by around 15 percent compared to the previous week.
Number of corona infections in Bavaria has fallen

Flirt variant is responsible for the majority of corona infections
As in recent weeks, the Proportion of the Corona variant KP.3 remained high last week and is currently at 34 percent. According to experts, the so-called Flirt variant is very contagious, but does not normally lead to serious cases.
