RKI: Corona incidence nationwide at 18.5, declining in Bavaria

Slight increase compared to the previous day, slightly more significant increase compared to the previous week: The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections is according to the Robert Koch Institute currently at 18.5. For four weeks now, this value has risen across the whole of Germany.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Wednesday morning, the health authorities last reported 3,571 new corona infections within one day. A week ago this value for Germany was 2,768 new infections – in the days after that it was well over 2,000, last Thursday even over 3,000.

According to the RKI, 25 further deaths in connection with a Sars-CoV-2 infection were registered nationwide. Overall, the official number of people who died from or with Covid-19 in Germany is 91,704.

Bavaria: Four deaths, incidence continues to fall slightly

The Bavaria-wide corona incidence, on the other hand, has fallen slightly again compared to the previous days – according to the RKI, it is currently 13.4. On Tuesday the value was 14.0, on Monday it was 14.4. In total, the RKI recently reported 368 new infections and four further deaths in connection with a corona infection for Bavaria.

On Wednesday a week ago, 255 new infections were reported across Bavaria. The recently increased number could also be explained by an increase in tests at the start of the summer holidays – the RKI only publishes the number of tests carried out once a week, usually on Thursdays.

Incidence: Berchtesgadener Land again below 50

The Berchtesgadener Land district continues to have the highest seven-day incidence in the Free State. At 47.2, according to the RKI figures, the value is again below the important threshold value of 50, from which measures such as stricter rules for restaurants or stricter contact restrictions apply. However, the value could increase due to late reports, and it must be below 50 for five days in a row for the measures to be withdrawn.

The incidence values from two Central Franconian regions show how great the regional differences are in Bavaria: According to the current RKI figures, both the city of Schwabach and the district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen have an incidence value of zero. The authorities there did not register any new corona infections in the past seven days.

So far, officially almost 3.8 million infections nationwide

The RKI has counted just under 3.8 million proven infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic in Germany. The actual total number is likely to be higher, however, since many infections are not detected.

The incidence value has long been the decision for many corona restrictions in the pandemic, including in the current Bavarian corona regulation. In view of the increasing number of vaccinated people and thus better protected risk groups, further values such as hospital admissions should be given greater consideration in the future.
