Joel Pereira is the new goalkeeper of RKC Waalwijk. The Brabanters take over the 25-year-old Portuguese transfer-free from Manchester United. Pereira signs a contract for one season in Waalwijk, with the option for an extra year.
Via the club channels RKC reports the arrival of Pereira. The goalie has played for United since 2012. Under compatriot José Mourinho, Pereira made his debut at the club five years later. The keeper eventually came to a handful of duels in the first team of Manchester United. He was also rented out several times by The Red Devils. Last season, Pereira played on loan for Huddersfield Town. There he came to only two official duels.
General director Frank van Mosselveld is very pleased with the arrival of Pereira. “With the arrival of Joel, we are bringing in a goalkeeper with a lot of potential, who also has the necessary experience,” he says. “He received his training at Manchester United and has made many flying hours during that period. Here in Waalwijk he gets the opportunity to further develop himself and we will go for the maximum possible together with him.”
