Rizieq’s Legal Team Calls Amien a blunder about the death of FPI Warriors

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Habib Advocacy Team Rizieq Shihab mention statement Amien Rais about Islamic Defenders Front’s shooting (FPI) blunder. Previously, Amien stated that institutionally the TNI and Polri were not involved in the shooting of FPI soldiers.

Rizieq Shihab’s legal advisor, Aziz Yanuar, considered Amien’s statement premature and detrimental to the victim.

“That Amien Rais’ statement was a blunder because it harmed the team and victims and their families, on the contrary, it was beneficial for the opposing party,” Aziz said in a written statement, Monday (19/7).

On the other hand, Aziz said there was a strong suspicion that a number of generals were involved in the shooting. He also mentioned that several institutions, such as the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the TNI, and the National Police were involved in the incident.

According to Aziz, Amien’s statement made the shooting of FPI soldiers a normal criminal offense. He said Amien’s statement strengthened the scenario of the regime and the police regarding the incident.

“That Amien Rais’ statement is counterproductive so that it becomes a loophole for opponents to take advantage of, so the regime via the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD immediately delighted with Amien Rais’ statement,” he said

Aziz said Rizieq rejected Amien Rais’ statement. Rizieq, he said, still considers the shooting of the FPI troops as a gross violation of human rights.

“High Priest Rizieq Shihab continues to support and appreciate the hard work of TP3 to bring all those involved in the KM 50 massacre without exception to national and international human rights courts,” he said.

Amien Rais stated on 7 July that the Indonesian National Police and TNI were not institutionally involved in the shooting of 6 FPI soldiers on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road at kilometer 50.

“After reading it well, institutionally, this is important, the Police and the TNI are not involved in the scenario in the implementation of these gross human rights violations,” Amien said in an online book launch.

The government responded to Amien’s statement. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD was grateful for Amien’s statement.

Mahfud said the incident would not have been a gross violation of human rights without the involvement of the TNI and Polri. According to him, gross human rights violations must meet the elements of systematic and structured planning.

“Thank you, Mr. Amien, for your sportsmanship in announcing the findings of TP3 regarding the killing of 6 FPI Laskars, that there was no TNI-POLRI involvement,” said Mahfud on the Twitter account @mohmahfudmd, Thursday (8/7).
