Rizieq’s Attorney’s Team apologizes for the walkout during the trial

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Chairman of the 212 Alumni Brotherhood (PA) National Tanfidzi Council, Slamet Maarif, and members of the legal team Rizieq Shihab, Aziz Yanuar, visited the Attorney General’s Office, Jakarta, Thursday (25/3/2021).

Their presence was received by the Chairman of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) Syahnan and the Head of the Sub-Directorate for Execution and Exemination at the Director of Narcotics and Other Addictive Crimes, Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes, Abdullah.

“(They) intend to tabayyun regarding the handling of a health quarantine crime case involving the defendant MRS as a cleric and several members of PA 212,” said Head of the Legal Information Center of the Attorney General’s Office Leonard Eben Ezer Simanjuntak in a written statement.

Leonard said that Aziz, as a member of the legal team, apologized for the events that occurred during the trial held virtually from the East Jakarta District Court and the Police Headquarters Detention Center.

Since the inaugural trial on Tuesday (16/3/2021) to Friday (23/3/2021), Rizieq and his attorneys have insisted on requesting a face-to-face trial.

Rizieq and his attorneys even had time to do it walkout or leaving the courtroom as a manifestation of their objection to the so -called virtual conference.

“The incident occurred solely to fight for the defendant’s right to be treated fairly during the trial process,” said Leonard.

On that occasion, the head of the prosecutor, Syahnan, stated that the prosecutor had absolutely no intention of wrongdoing Rizieq Shihab as the defendant.

“The duties and functions of the prosecutor’s team require the presence of the MRS defendant according to the judge’s order as stipulated in the judge’s decision regarding the online trial,” said Syahnan.

Syahnan explained that the prosecutor team still respected the defendant Rizieq as a cleric and asked Rizieq’s legal team to understand the duties and functions of the prosecutor team in the process of solving the case.

He also asked Rizieq’s legal team not to disclose words that demean the dignity of the prosecutor’s team during the trial.

Furthermore, he also invited Rizieq’s legal team, administrators and members of PA 212, as well as all Muslims not to be provoked by unsure information that could be exploited by irresponsible parties.
