The Atlas Lions’ historic feat continues to draw admiration from football fans. Riyad Mahrez joins the list of those hailing the excellent performance of the Moroccan team in Qatar. They are the fourth African team to reach the quarter-finals at the World Cup after Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana and the first Arab team to win such a qualification. Classified in Group F, described as difficult, Walid Regragui’s colts held off against Croatia (finalists in 2018), beat Belgium, Canada, who returned to the World Cup 36 years later and dominated Spain (champions in 2010) on penalties (0 -0, card 3-0).

The Fennecs captain, whose mother is of Moroccan descent, has expressed his admiration for the Atlas Lions. “It’s great to see this team performing well on the biggest stages like the World Cup.
