The Saudi Al-Ekhbariya channel said, early on Friday morning, that the Algerian, Manchester City striker, Riyad Mahrez, had completed his transfer to the Saudi Al-Ahly.
Al-Ekhbariya channel said on Twitter, “Algerian Riyad Mahrez is a new player for Al-Ahly club, coming from European champion Manchester City.”
The channel did not immediately give other details
On Thursday, the BBC announced that Manchester City had agreed to transfer its Algerian star to Al-Ahly of Saudi Arabia for 30 million pounds.
She added that Mahrez, 32, had obtained permission not to travel with his team to Japan and South Korea, in the pre-season camp.
And the Saudi newspaper, Al-Riyadiah, reported a few days ago that Al-Ahly Jeddah had reached a “final agreement” with Mahrez, and that “contracts will be signed after passing medical examinations.”
And she explained that the Manchester City star will join the camp of the outside team after completing the formal joining.
Previous news reports indicated attempts by the Saudi club to obtain the services of the 32-year-old player, after his success in signing Liverpool player Roberto Firmino and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Mahrez achieved several achievements during his time in England, most notably what became known as the “Miracle of Leicester City”, after the “Foxes” won the English Premier League championship for the first time in the club’s history during the 2015-2016 season.
The Algerian star contributed greatly to achieving that “miracle”, and was rewarded for his efforts by winning the title of best player in the English Premier League after that historic achievement.
Mahrez also contributed during the past season to achieving the first title for Manchester City in the Champions League competition, in addition to winning the English League Cup 4 times with the “Citizens”.
The Algerian striker scored 15 goals for his team in 47 matches he played last season, which culminated in the historic treble at the end.
