RIVM reports more corona infections, but fewer deaths than a week earlier

The number of hospital admissions has also increased, from 9 to 16 in a week. The number of deaths is lower than last week. Then 19 deaths were reported.

That the increase in the number of infections is greater than a week earlier may be because more and more tests are carried out: last week a record number of tests were performed.

Last week, 534 new cases were reported to RIVM, but 82 previous cases were also corrected because they turned out to be incorrect. The total increases with 452 infections to 51,146.

Ten hospitalizations and five deaths have also been corrected. A total of 6,135 people have now died from the coronavirus. 11,892 people had to be hospitalized.

Local outbreaks

According to the RIVM, there have been a number of small local outbreaks throughout the country. This concerns three or more infections, for example in one family or a company. With the source and contact research that is done on every infected patient, about 100 new cases are detected every day, RIVM says.

Because not everyone has been tested with a possible contamination, the actual numbers are probably even higher. More and more people are now being tested. Since June 1, anyone with complaints can get tested, which has happened almost 375,000 times since.
