RIVM reports as many deaths as week earlier (84), hospital admissions halved | NOW

The number of new hospital admissions and newly reported deaths remains relatively low, according to the daily update of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). RIVM received reports of 84 new deaths and 39 new hospital admissions.

In the past eleven days, RIVM reported fewer than a hundred new admissions, while more than a hundred deaths were reported on April 29 alone. In the previous weeks, both numbers invariably exceeded one hundred.

According to the RIVM, the recent figures show that the measures against the spread of the coronavirus have the desired effect.

In total, more than eleven thousand Dutch are now admitted to hospitals with a corona infection, and 5,288 inhabitants died. 41,774 people have been diagnosed with the virus, but that number is likely to be many times higher because not everyone is tested.

The figures reported by RIVM do not show the full picture of the past 24 hours. There can be a days-long delay between the time of death or admission of a patient and the report that is received by RIVM. Earlier figures will be added later.
