RIVM reports 8,141 positive corona tests on Saturday, a quarter more than a week earlier | NOW

The RIVM reported 8,141 positive corona tests on Saturday. That’s a 25 percent increase from last Saturday when 6,504 positive tests were reported. In addition, another 28 people died from the effects of the virus: four more than a week ago.

This does not mean that these corona patients have all died or tested positive in the last 24 hours. The information is sometimes passed on to the institute with a delay.

It is also the fifth day in a row that a record number of positive tests has been reported. For example, 7,825 positive tests were reported on Thursday, and this number rose to 7,997 on Friday.

The number of positive tests has been increasing rapidly within the Netherlands since mid-September. The negative milestone of 200,000 positive tests has now been passed. Although there is also a lot more testing, the RIVM suspects that the increase in the corona figures is due to less compliance with the basic rules and corona measures.

No IC patients moved to Germany yet

The daily update from the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) shows that 216 corona patients were admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours. This is a comparable increase compared to previous days.

A total of 1,568 corona patients are now in hospital, fifteen more than Friday. The number of IC admissions (42) increased again compared to the previous day (35), with 352 IC beds now occupied by corona patients. The majority of the COVID-19 patients admitted (1,216) are treated in regular wards.

According to chairman Ernst Kuipers of the National Network Acute Care (LNAZ), there is still sufficient capacity on the Dutch ICs, so that no patients have yet been moved to Germany. Kuipers previously expected that the first patients would be transferred this Saturday.

RIVM: Probably still partial lockdown in December

The RIVM takes into account that the partial lockdown, which applies in the country from Wednesday, will still be in effect in December. RIVM boss Jaap van Dissel said this to the on Saturday WE. According to Van Dissel, the government’s estimate to realize a trend break in the corona figures after four weeks is too optimistic.

The health expert tells the news medium that the number of positive tests will increase in the near future, before a possible decrease will follow. As soon as this decrease can be seen, relaxation can only be implemented gradually.
