RIVM reports 6,689 new positive corona tests, less than Friday | NOW

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported 6,689 new positive corona tests on Saturday. That is less than Friday, when the RIVM reported 7,272 new positive tests. The average number of positive tests over the past three days (6,982) is also smaller than that of Friday and the two days before (7,308).

RIVM also reported 73 new corona-related deaths on Saturday. That’s 45 fewer than Friday. This concerns reports within 24 hours, which does not mean that these corona patients died on the same day.

Average number of positive tests over three days

  • Saturday: 6,982 positive tests
  • Friday: 7,308 positive tests
  • Thursday: 7,476 positive tests
  • Wednesday: 7,913 positive tests
  • Tuesday 8,274 positive tests
  • Monday: 8,961 positive tests
  • Sunday: 9,906 positive tests

The number of positive tests per day is calculated by taking the average of the number of positive tests from that day and the two days before. The average for Monday is calculated together with the figures for Saturday and Sunday, the average for Sunday with the figures for Friday and Saturday, et cetera.

Sixty fewer corona patients in hospitals

There are now 2,384 COVID patients in hospitals, 61 fewer than Friday, reports the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) Saturday. Of those 2,384, 602 are in intensive care, one less than Friday.

In the past 24 hours, 21 patients have moved between regions. Four of them are treated in an IC department.

October measures appear to be contributing to the decline

Last Tuesday, it became apparent that the number of new positive tests on a weekly basis had declined for the first time in two months. However, according to the RIVM, this decrease is not yet large enough.

The measures taken in October do seem to contribute to the decrease in the number of new infections. However, it is still too early to see whether the Netherlands has already passed the peak of the second wave. This Tuesday, the RIVM will explain the figures again during the weekly update on the corona virus.
