Most infections in children
The percentage of positive tests increased further last week: from 23.4 to 23.9. This happened with a decrease in the number of people who reported to the GGD test streets. The number of tests decreased from 454,000 tests last week to 381,000 last week.
Most infections were still in children, although there is also a decrease. Last week there were 10,221 positive tests in the age group 5 to 9 and 9036 in the category 10-14. Together, the children make up 20 percent of the total number of positive tests. The school closure is too recent to be reflected in these figures.
The GGD region with the most infection in the past seven days was South Holland South (Dordrecht and surroundings) with 649 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. Zeeland is shortly behind it, followed by Zaanstreek-Waterland.
Possible ‘Verstappen effect’
78 positive tests came last week from travelers who had recently been to the United Arab Emirates. That is much more than in recent months. Between September 20 and the beginning of last week, the total number of infected travelers from this country was 114.
This may be due to the last Formula 1 race of the season in the capital Abu Dhabi, where Max Verstappen took the world title more than a week ago. An estimated 5000 Dutch people had traveled to the Abu Dhabi circuit for this.
