The American company Rivian has started the serial installation of the electric pickup R1T. According to the brand’s founder, the first electric pickup came off the assembly line on Tuesday morning at the plant in Normal, Illinois. In the near future, the cars will begin to be delivered to customers who have been waiting for their R1T for almost a year. Thus, Rivian became the first brand to launch an electric pickup, ahead of Tesla, General Motors and other competitors in this regard.
The number of R1Ts produced is not specified, but at least six pickups can be seen in the factory images. As previously announced, the special first edition will have the highest equipment.
Such a pickup has the most powerful electric power path, consisting of four electric motors, whose system power reaches 765 horsepower and 1120 Nm of torque. Acceleration from standstill to 100 kilometers per hour is exactly three seconds. This is 0.1 seconds more than the time that the most powerful three-engine Tesla Cybertruck will need – at least according to preliminary data.
Launch Edition is not the version with the largest battery. It is equipped with a 135-kilowatt-hour battery, providing up to 480 kilometers of travel without recharging. The maximum range of 645 kilometers will receive a version with a battery of 180 kilowatt-hours, which will go on sale next year.
Rivian placed orders for the Launch Edition back in November last year, valuing this first performance at $ 75,000. By 2022, the new electric pickup segment will grow unless manufacturers start announcing new delays. This fall, General Motors will launch the Hummer EV pickup, and next year will begin assembling the electric Ford F-150 Lightning and only then – the Tesla Cybertruck.
