Electric car manufacturer Rivian has revealed that now any company that wants and needs it can order their electric delivery van. Previously, this was not possible because Rivian had a contract with Amazon that stipulated that these vehicles were for Amazon only.
The information appeared in Rivian’s Q3 financial reports, with the company later adding technical information and pricing to its website.
Two versions of the van are available – the smallest van is called “Delivery 500” and can carry 1,240 kilograms of cargo, while the full weight of the vehicle is 4,240 kilograms, with Rivian promising 260 kilometers on a single charge. A larger ‘Delivery 700’ van is also available. It can carry 1,140 kilograms of cargo, but the cargo compartment is larger than the smaller version, so it will be more suitable for lighter but larger loads. One charge should be enough for 240-245 kilometers.
Rivian does not say how large the van’s batteries are, but it is known that they use LFP technology and fast charging options are available with a capacity of 100kW.
We have previously written about the contract between Rivian and Amazon, which provided for the delivery of 100 thousand such vans. The contract is planned to be executed by 2030. Amazon also had a hand in the development of the van. This fall, it was reported that Amazon received 10 thousand vans. Some of them were put to work in Europe, but most were employed in the United States. Rivian representatives have also indicated that they are not going to withdraw from the contract with Amazon and will fulfill the order to the end.
