For those who don’t know yet, the intelligent Latvian dance music producer N’Works is the same Normunds Rutulis, only N’Works (in Latvian – Normunda Darbnīca) is the singer’s DJing heart.
No matter how surprising it is, “Ritmosfēra” is Norča’s fifth remix album, in which he collected his remixes of Latvian songs created over the past three years. Among them, he also inserted a version of the latest single “Broadway” by the Lithuanian funk group “Gin Gas”, which was unnecessary, because this piece falls out of the overall concept – either all in Latvian or nothing.
In total, the selection includes 14 remixes, which are dominated by the elite “souful house” and “nu disco” dance music genres – at least that’s what Normund himself thinks. As exceptions, he mentions ArtifexLV and Intara Busuļa’s “Back” and “Riga Reggae” version of the song “Door call” in the “drum’n’bass” genre.
Among the more modern pieces, we must definitely mention Darta Stepanova’s “Tāleki jāit ēt” with the atypical for dance music, but the “DaGamba” cello theme, “Nedejošu” by the new pop star Aleksandra, the version of “One Plus one” by Rihards Bērzins, which was originally recorded in ¾ time signature, and Oskar Deigel’s “Tell me thank you.”
On the other hand, those who are fans of Georges Siksna at “Ezīšfestos” will probably like Raymond Paul’s “Man in his best years” performed by the musical association “Vintāža”, the elegant “I want one” from “Neazimristulīšu” or the classic “Diskoroze” by Gunārs Rosenberg, for which a new version has been recorded by the band Soul 2 Soul vocalist Charlotte Kelly. Pop classics in a new guise include Katrīna Gupalo’s “About the last page” and Māras Ozoliņš’s “Mazinė nežinė” – these remixes turned out fascinatingly well for Normund!
The author, programmer, sound designer, producer and publisher of the album arrangements is N’Works himself, while Jānis Kalve performed the sound post-processing. The design and composition of the album cover was made by Linda Rutule-Treimane.
