Risks and Implications of NATO’s Enlargement to the Pacific Zone: Insights from the BRICS Summit in South Africa

Everyone’s eyes are on the BRICS summit in South Africa. The stakes are enormous, because this heterogeneous group was born around a critical discourse on the West, the validity of which must sometimes be admitted. But that is not the subject of this chronicle, which concerns a completely different risk: the enlargement of NATO to the Pacific zone. The statement may seem absurd since, as its name suggests, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization covers a specific territory that involves 28 European countries, two North American countries, not to mention Turkey. But, now that the United States has shifted most of its geopolitical concerns to China, it is working to include its allies from the Indo-Pacific region in this organization.
